What a contrast Victor Hugo’s optimism now seems compared to the current air of pessimism that surrounds the Euro.
Clearly many people feel that the Euro is in trouble and this is making savers and investors nervous. But the current uncertainty doesn’t necessarily mean that Europe is on the brink of an economic collapse. Simply pointing to events such as rising unemployment or concerns about Greek and Italian debts isn’t sufficient to make the conclusion that the Euro is at an end.
